Child
Custody
Our most precious assets are our children. We strongly
encourage our clients to try to work out issues with the other
parent. When parents work out a child custody arrangement, it
is important to have that agreement properly drafted and filed
with the court to avoid confusion and to protect the client. It
is helpful to have an attorney with years of experience in
custody disputes guide the client on effective solutions.
When
parents cannot work out their differences our firm can help
resolve the dispute in court or through alternate dispute
resolution processes such as negotiation, mediation, Collaborative
Law and arbitration. These processes are more clearly
defined on the Divorce page of this
site.
If you were not married to the other parent it is also important
to establish paternity and to make arrangements for custody,
access and support of the child.
Parents will need to parent children together long after divorce
or the end of the relationship. The end of a marriage
should not be the end of parenting a child together.
Parents, whether or not they were married, need to form a
relationship with the other parent that will allow them to
parent together, despite the anger and hurt they may feel
towards each other. |
